Endodontics

Endodontics is the speciality of Dentistry responsible for studying the health of the dental pulp and the entire canal system.

Endodontics, or as it is commonly designated “devitalisation”, is the last solution to avoid the extraction of a tooth and Oral Surgery. When this medical procedure is applied the tooth’s root and neighbouring tissues are already infected, causing pain.

This is the speciality of Dentistry that aims to preserve the tooth by preventing, diagnosing, treating and controlling alterations to the pulp and peri-root tissues. The pulp space is prepared and cleaned and then filled with a biocompatible material. This helps to seal the dental canals in order to prevent bacteria from entering the adjacent hard tissues.

Our dental clinic works with the best professionals. We are duly equipped for all treatments and operations you need to have stronger teeth from the inside.

When should I have a root canal?

Devitalisation is applied when the pulp or dental nerve are affected, causing inflammation and pain (in the event of advanced carious lesions, trauma or in situations in which there is marked tooth sensitivity and other previous treatments did not give the expected results).

Benefits of Endodontics

  • Prevents tooth extraction and maintains the structure of the tooth;
  • Prevents injuries that can compromise the area surrounding the tooth in question;
  • Prevents bacteria from entering;
  • Prevents future treatments, such as implants, for example.

Advice after Endodontics

  • In the event of mild to moderate pain (during the following 48 hours) take the prescribed medication;
  • In the event of severe pain, fever, general malaise or persistent complaints please contact us;
  • After devitalisation the tooth will be more fragile. It is recommended to protect it with a ceramic crown to reduce the risk of fracture.
